My Art Collection continued....
As you know, I have a thing for pop-up books and clever paper engineering. It is absolutely engaging and always filled with surprises.
One of my all time favourite artists is Maurice Sendak. Ever since I was a little kid, his illustrations have fasinated and filled me with wonder. So imagine my profound delight when I found this:
It is a pop-up masterpiece created by paper engineer Matthew Reinhart using Maurice Sendak's illustrations. No, I kid you not.... It really is a masterpiece....
( More pictures... )
Hope you enjoyed!!

My bad for not sharing my art with you... so here is a WIP for you... I don't know where it's going...
I'm using acrylic paints on stretched canvas. I cover the canvas with a 'ground' which is just a layer of colour on the canvas. I think when I work with oil, I don't usually use a ground and will start painting straight on to the canvas.
This is the really 'ugly' stage of my painting. I'm working really fast and just 'blocking' in the shapes with solid colour. In this case, I started with just white and burnt umber. Hopefully, limiting my colour choices will force me to evaluate my values more objectively.
I'm still sticking with only 2 colours. I've blocked in most of the shapes and have started refining the figure. I think my head is too big and since I don't have a 'free-transform' when I go old skool, I decide I better fix it now before it gets outta hand. lol
I arrogantly think that I've established the values accurately and decide to add some colour to refine the shapes. I add a light green for contrast and add colbalt blue to darken the shadowed areas. You can see where I've been dripping paint...lol The next day, when I take a look at my painting, I think to myself, "wtf? I thought that was green, not yellow!!" and realize once again how important it is to work in consistent light....
More to come! I'm giving you fair warning! lol
This is the start of my artist card collection! I have a few more that I hope to display in the future. I have been fortunate enough to have joined the wonderful community of FaeForum where I have met some really passionate and awesome artists who often participate in artist card trades.
Unfortunately, I am not able to take good photographs and of course photos never seem to do justice to the art. Pooh! But that won't stop me from showing off my treasures!
Well, I know I said I would show the ATC collection next... but I have to post this now because it arrived in the mail today!
This little beauty is for mom!

Well, we've had rain for days and days and finally there was a break in the weather giving me enough light to take some photographs. I've been wanting to share with you some of my art collection. It's not much, but I hope to keep adding pieces to it. I have a few more pieces but they are packed away until we move and have enough real estate to display them all, including the large block print of a tree created by an artist in Cuba (seeing local and museum art is one of the best things about traveling!).
So for the next couple of posts, I will be showing you a vase, a wood carving (also from my trip to Cuba), artist trading cards, a book from one of my favourite illustrators and an awesome laptop sleeve!!

It's been 3 days since I sent my folks home with their new macbook.... and they haven't called once!
hallelujah!
Thank you OS X!!!
Yesterday, I committed more than 5 mins on a drawing....
and got decent results....
After complaining about doing miniature art, I went and drew big.
So how big?
Just gotta mention that my daily list of sites to visit has changed.

That one is more geeky.
This one is more crafty.

Go there now! Very, very cool.
I really admire those who can keep up with forums!
I'm sick of our unpredictible a/c... damn, can't wait to find a place to live with temperature control!
I am always on the lookout for the right inking pen. Dissatisfied with marker pens, I started using old skool dip pens. Dip pens achieve wonderful results but I'm always afraid that I will spill ink. It's happened before.
Today, going to try a new brand. We'll see. What do you guys use to ink your watercolours?
Will try to catch up with you!
Well, as I said, "End of Summer" will be featured on some products! I especially like the tote bag for some reason. All new goodies are at
The Hidden Gallery Cafe Press Shop where you will find fairy mugs, tote bags, clothing and housewares. Enjoy!
Also, some friends from school started a design company called PICA UNITED. Recently they set up an art forum for display, critiques, etc... They are very talented! Larv and I participated in an art show they held last year. Check out the forums because these guys can draw!

I also want to congratulate friends who submitted art to the Amy Brown site! Wonderful job guys! Go check it out here!
*Happy Birthday* to Dawn to who I didn't get a chance to congratulate! ^.^
